1997-2007: MS PAINT GALLERY
The motivation for this project seems self-evident to me. For the sake of
putting something here in this space, however, I wish to say that MS paint
is an undervalued program that has been used for years by people wishing
to express their artistic desires in a spontaneous and usually pretty
half-assed way. I put these images here to record my own journey down the
aforementioned road. I truly believe that masterpieces can be created in
MS paint, but so far the only ones I have seen are things that, were they to
be painted with real paints, would probably be painted on black velvet.
I've seen really bad pictures of harbours at their reflective sunsetty best and
pictures of Gandalf (as he was played by the guy from Gods and
Monsters)...I don't know what else. The best MS paint art has been what
you might call (if you were that kind of an asshole) "outsider art". It's kind
of ironic that Microsoft, which usually gets a bum rap for being a giant
corporate beast that devours everything in its path like a tiger who has just
devoured 50 lbs of catnip, should be a font for artists of unschooled vision,
but there you go.
